Over the years and through various experiences, we have felt God calling us into full time ministry overseas.

For Joe, after having had several cross-cultural missions experiences, he has felt the Lord calling him to work in full time Youth Ministry.

For Alicia, it was her internship in Nicaragua with the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee during her last semester in University that got her excited about full time ministry. Since then, she has always felt God calling her back, but never felt the right opportunity had come her way.

Joe attended trades school at Kwantlen University-College and has been working as a welder/fabricator for the past 7 years.

Alicia graduated from Dordt College in 2004 and after working for a homeless shelter in Seattle for a year, moved to BC. Since then, she has been working for the Development department for Power to Change Ministries (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ, Canada).

For the past several years both of us have been active in ministry through our home church in Abbotsford, BC, serving in Youth Ministry, ALPHA and boy’s club.

We were married in September, 2006 and we’re excited about God’s call on both their lives to go into full time ministry overseas. After looking into several opportunities and prayerful consideration, it was clear that serving with OMS International was where God wanted us to be.

We are excited about being a part of the eXtreme Walk team going to Medellin, Columbia in January, 2008. We are looking forward to the adventure God has in store for us as we walk alongside the local church and community, meeting the needs of people – both physically and spiritually.

Please pray for us in the next few months as we prepare to leave for the field. Please pray that:

  1. All the details and logistics would be worked out
  2. We would be at full financial support by January, 2008
  3. We will have ability to learn Spanish quickly and easily
  4. The hearts of the people we will meet will be prepared to hear the gospel
  5. Communication between us and the field would go well so that expectations on both sides would be clear.
